Not quite, but some friends and I did start a little website dedicated to sharing life science related screencasts. Bioscreencast.com went live today. I have been involved as a marketer and web strategist, mostly giving advice along the way, and did have some role in the sites existence. Anyway, you can read all the gory details here, here, and here.
I had got into the habit of using multiple pages as my "homepage" in Firefox. However, a recent trend seems to be changing all that. WIDGETS!!!. Anything that gets its own conference is worth a look see, and from personal experience widgets are worth the hype. They come in many forms. My introduction to widgets was a couple of years ago with Konfabulator, since acquired by Yahoo and re-branded as the Yahoo Widget Engine!. Mac users are probably already familiar with Widgets from the built in Dashboard (lucky devils). However, my "widgetization" began in earnest when Google Desktop included the Google Sidebar, and then Google Gadgets. Then came the ultimate move, Google Gadgets for the web. Today, my personalized Google Homepage is full of widgets/gadgets that essentially have my default startup page to just three tabs (used to be 6 ot 7 at one point), and I use that as my launch page for everything, from my Google Custom Search to Google Reader to a a weight tracker. As others have noted, widgets are here to stay and are part of the evolution of the web into a platform.
Now if only someone would create a Google Gadget for 37Signals' Backpack
A few days ago I wrote about Diigo. I must say that with a few minor niggles like its tagroll, I really like it. The ability to add clippings, a la google notebook is a real plus as is the toolbar. Along with del.icio.us, it seems to be taking care of most of my needs in terms of information gathering. I am now using google notebook essentially as a scratchpad for clippings now.
I am trying out another one with promise - diigo
The workflow is nice, as is the del.icio.us integration. More as I get used to it
