There are things to be proud of and things that make you feel giddy. Here are a couple of links that fall into those categories.
One of the features of my grandfathers house in Delhi where I spend a few years as a kid (well on the floor above) and a year when I was in college is a stainless steel olympic torch. Recently, the Delhi edition of the Indian Express talked to my dad about simpler times and you'll find out how the torch ended up there
On a more recent and personal note, one of the people, someone I call the original alpha geek is Jon Udell. A couple of weeks ago, he interviewed me for his podcast, which went live today.
Looks like my need with trying out new stuff has a new target - Video. I set up a channel on Kyte.tv mostly via my mobile phone (since I really don't have other means of doing this
Not quite, but some friends and I did start a little website dedicated to sharing life science related screencasts. Bioscreencast.com went live today. I have been involved as a marketer and web strategist, mostly giving advice along the way, and did have some role in the sites existence. Anyway, you can read all the gory details here, here, and here.
It's been a long time coming. So yesterday, I just went and did it. Next time I will plan it better. I ended up ad lib-ing the entire script, which is not the easiest thing in the world. Part of it was for got reason. I couldn't record in the background, so had to have my adobe audition screen in the foreground, so some of the notes I had written were not quite accessible.
You'll find 'el podcast here.
You can now see yours truly on video, presenting at Ignite Seattle
Just as a reminder, total time = 5 minutes, total slides = 20 (15 seconds per slide). No control of the slide transitions, and there were some interesting hiccups there.
I am truly schizophrenic when it comes to content management systems, but there is a reason for the madness. When possible, its good to use the right tool for the right job and the inner geek in me likes to try out new platforms anyway. As I have said before, I like the simplicity of Vox and the ability to upload lists of pictures, music, books etc, which makes it an ideal medium to stay in touch with friends and family.
On the other hand, when it comes to more serious stuff, I prefer the flexibility of Wordpress, which is what I use for my science and business oriented blog. That gives me the flexibility of design control, user control, etc. Plus I prefer writing in html, one thing I wish Vox had (I don't like WYSIWYG editors). Currently I host that blog on Yahoo, but due to a number of issues with the amount of control I have (e.g. htaccess control), I am moving off yahoo to another host when I find one that fits my needs.
I will probably start of on a new hosting service with a new version of my music site. The site is long overdue for an update (and new music). After much deliberation, I decided to go with Drupal as the main CMS for that site (I highly recommend opencms.org). It allows me to keep it up to date and has the flexibility to manage forums, blogs, etc. Plus it has a lot of plugins and the kind of community that Wordpress has. It's way too complex for just a blog and I am quite looking forward to trying out its rather talked about learning curve. Now to find a new host with the right support, a lot of space and the right price.
So I got my invite today. First impressions .. I definitely like the look and feel of the site and certainly think its a good way of communicating with friends and family (much as I love the social web, I am still a somewhat private person). My main, more techie-oriented blog will remain at http://mndoci.com. That's the best part; one has so many options now, each best suited for a particular function. I have the gut feeling that I will like Vox, unlike my recent experience with Mugshot, which was not my cup of tea.
If I take to Vox, this is where I get to bore people about my tastes in music, Roger Federer's forehand, and general geek talk. I might embarrass a few people (and myself) in the process as well.
