Kathy Sierra is one of my favorite bloggers (perhaps my favorite). She has a wonderful post on using graphics in blogs, presentations, etc that I recommend to anyone and everyone.
And of course I have to add some sort of graphic to this post, so I'll just add one of Kathy's books.
I am now officially a Drupal user, albeit a very early one. One thing that I feel I must do, even though it might not be necessary is get much better at PHP. Wordpress forced me to get much more knowledgable about XHTML and CSS, although I haven't really put that to real good use yet.
Anyway, I am in the process of moving the dual nature of matter over to drupal as we speak. If I am successful with the migration and happy with the service at A Small Orange (so far so good), then I will move my Wordpress Blog over to the new host as well and maintain Wordpress and Drupal for my blog and music site respectively.
I have tried out many different aggregators now. Everything from Pluck, Bloglines, Rojo, Newsgator, but I always keep coming back to sage, a little firefox extension. But I have been looking for something that I can read when I am not on my own computer (sage is very simple and limited to one computer). Rojo has the best design and usability, but unfortunately it is a little buggy, which keeps bringing me back to bloglines, which I don't really like, but it kinda works. I use live bookmarks for news feeds, but its not the format I like for blogs.
Ah well .. someday
I am truly schizophrenic when it comes to content management systems, but there is a reason for the madness. When possible, its good to use the right tool for the right job and the inner geek in me likes to try out new platforms anyway. As I have said before, I like the simplicity of Vox and the ability to upload lists of pictures, music, books etc, which makes it an ideal medium to stay in touch with friends and family.
On the other hand, when it comes to more serious stuff, I prefer the flexibility of Wordpress, which is what I use for my science and business oriented blog. That gives me the flexibility of design control, user control, etc. Plus I prefer writing in html, one thing I wish Vox had (I don't like WYSIWYG editors). Currently I host that blog on Yahoo, but due to a number of issues with the amount of control I have (e.g. htaccess control), I am moving off yahoo to another host when I find one that fits my needs.
I will probably start of on a new hosting service with a new version of my music site. The site is long overdue for an update (and new music). After much deliberation, I decided to go with Drupal as the main CMS for that site (I highly recommend opencms.org). It allows me to keep it up to date and has the flexibility to manage forums, blogs, etc. Plus it has a lot of plugins and the kind of community that Wordpress has. It's way too complex for just a blog and I am quite looking forward to trying out its rather talked about learning curve. Now to find a new host with the right support, a lot of space and the right price.
Last night I submitted my first entry to a blog carnival. This is called panta rei and is focussed on thermal sciences. In keeping with the "everything flows" spirit of the carnival, I submitted an article on protein simulations
Next up .. a submission to bio::blogs
